Nashville New Media: Of Social Media Clubs and Tweet Ups

March 7, 2008 · 4 Comments

The Current Trajectory of Nashville Social Media:

New Media is taking off globally, and not surprisingly is exploding in Music City USA.  With the rise of unconferences like Bar Camp and Podcamp from Dave Delaney, Marcus Whitney, and the folks at Emma Email marketing the Nashville social media scene got a huge jolt of energy and community.  The same folks delivered with a handful of successful Geek Breakfast events at Noshville (if you do web work or graphic design in nashville you should check it out and join the Facebook group).

Most recently, Mitch Canter of Studio Nashvegas is putting together a Nashville Tweet-Up to bring together the best and brightest of bloggers, internet entrepreneurs, and other fun loving tech people from the Nashville area.

The Bright Future of Social Media in Nashville

There are rumors and forces in the direction of a Social Media Club in Nashville for tech and web 2.0 community networking and perhaps tasty bites.  There are rumors that it also might meet in the Hillsboro Village. If you have any suggestions for future social media and tech events in Nashville (and our adjoining communities in Franklin and Brentwood) feel free to leave them in the comments section.  I assure you, they will be passed along to the appropriate parties.

I think it’s fascinating to see something that is so virtual take physical form. I used to only look at online social networks as an easy way to connect with people all over the world, but as your entry suggests, there seems to be a trend to extend those services into the offline (the real world), and Nashville appears to be on the cusp of that trend.

Great post, thanks for the props too.

I agree with Jon, it’s so cool to use social networking to connect folks in the flesh. The events and breakfasts are examples of how we can do this. Every city should be doing it too.

It’s so exciting to see Nashville getting recognized as a hub for technology (services and talent). That’s exactly what we set out to do when we created BarCamp Nashville and PodCamp Nashville.

Of course nothing would be possible without the love and support of the community. You guys truly all rock!

    Cheers.

Yes, it’s true! Social Media Club Nashville is having its launch meeting Tuesday May 19th at the Aloft Hotel in Franklin, TN. They’ve so graciously donated the meeting space and our first meeting will be an opportunity for everyone to meet a few of the local businesses who are embracing social media. Our speakers include, Dave Delaney of Griffin Technology, Jared Degnan of Mars Petcare, Ben Lehman of Healthways and the incoming social media manager of The Tennessean. The motto of SMC is “if you get it, share it,” which is what we hope to accomplish…we’re all here to learn!
