Army Strong: Does Army Strong mean ignoring the problems in Iraq and at Walter Reed

May 29, 2008 · 3 Comments

Behind the myth of “Army Strong” and Army Strong.com:

The latest military slogan is Army Strong, and they have a branded site at Army Strong.com. However, this strength is bellied by the Iraq War and the treatment of troops in our medical facilities like Walter Reed across the country. The Washington Post recently reported:

Top officials at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, including the Army’s surgeon general, have heard complaints about outpatient neglect from family members, veterans groups and members of Congress for more than three years.

A procession of Pentagon and Walter Reed officials expressed surprise last week about the living conditions and bureaucratic nightmares faced by wounded soldiers staying at the D.C. medical facility. But as far back as 2003, the commander of Walter Reed, Lt. Gen. Kevin C. Kiley, who is now the Army’s top medical officer, was told that soldiers who were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan were languishing and lost on the grounds, according to interviews.

Truth in advertising and Army Strong simply don’t go together. What do you think of the Army Strong campaign?

i think that the army is part of the government; hence, it is corrupt. but isn’t that obvious?

however, we americans are good at putting on the brady bunch facade and making ourselves look like the good guys, at least in our own country because our ignorant citizens believe anything we see on the news. we would never believe that media has a political agenda and is absolutely not “objective.” this is america. we are free.

not to mention i rather consider myself a pacifist, though i am rather harsh at times, still working on that peacable nature thing. still.
