Coworking, Jelly, and Coffee Shop Mashup!!!

November 21, 2009 · Leave a Comment

What do you get when you add co-working to Jellies to the coffee shop environment???….

Co-Jelly-Coffee-Working or Co-Coffee-Jelly-Working….

“Congratulations…..you win an a new idea.”

Ok…the name needs SERIOUS work (let me emphasize serious…as does the pitch)….but anyway the notion of having a three part (or four part working environment is interesting to me.) This would allow co-working spaces which are overcrowded (or at capacity to grow…or at least potentially) Its kinda like stage two or three of a co-working space.

1) Traditional co-working space with office
2) Jelly (We’ll say the free-for all space in the co-working space with daily jelly meet ups) Although the ability of a jelly group (just a group of mobile or virtual or independent contractors who band together for social connection and support and conversation)
3) Coffee shop

One would balance their time between all three. The main three advantages I forsee are:
1) you never would get bored of your co-working space (new people, new music, new experiences)
2) theoretically decreased costs (also increased capacity of co-working spaces)
3) increased flexibility (this isn’t quite as great as it sounds–it might require more coordination, but once it got going you would find the balance and team work flow needed)
4) more relationships and business for co-workers. going out to coffee shops creates opportunities for more connections (I don’t know what the opportunity cost is in terms of missed introductions at the co-working space–I’m sure this is all over the map)

Just an idea. I hope you like it. I hope the last 2:30 minutes of your life were enriched or inspired to either start one of these or to mashup your life in a creative way in a willfull act of lifestyle design which can help you and those around you.

Feel free to leave your own inspirations and ruminations about life-mashups in the comments section. Thanks!
