Donald Miller on the Meaning and Purpose of Life…
hmmm. i dont know about comparing the human existence to movies. this guy is pretty awful and clearly lacks empathy. he fails to understand that those who say “life is meaningless” might really be saying, “i don’t believe their is an external meaning affixed to my life”.
perhaps they believe that whatever meaning life has it that which they give to it. wouldn’t this be the manifestation of god in each of us?
Point taken. I think any time you use a metaphor or analogy you can run into that sort of question. There are some areas in which the parallel is meaningful….and there are some areas where it is not.
Also, not everything resonates with everyone. He doesn’t provide a theory of everything…just an attempt to highlight some important issues along the way.
I can buy that. And to be honest, after the first five minute of listening to him I could take no more, so perhaps he brought some things home. But in those five minutes, I saw no compassion- especially with the portland dig.
