How to read a business book

We often miss the full value of business books. They are often pregnant with meaning….but we allow that meaning to lie dormant. One classic text on reading books in Mortimer J. Adler’s book/essay of the same name (Mortimer J Adler was a professor of philosophy at the University of Chicago).

1. Gaps/assumption identification
2. Inspiration (mindset, motivation, practical)
3. Fits in Context
4. Meaning or Justification
5. Tropes
6. Metaphor & rhetoric
7. Quotes (author, other sources, and classic texts–aphorisms)
8. Players
9. Models
10. Questions
11. Forms–translate to action
12. Other: contrast, nuance, etc..
