Excellent book on systems theory–its the best seller in the category on systems theory. You can learn more at her website. You can read a quick summary of her book here.

I think understanding the idea of stakeholders & context, uncovering whys (grounded in process improvement), A/B testing, and looking at the chain (weakest links, strongest links, and critical chain) can also be incredibly helpful
