Social Entrepreneurship and Jobs for Social Change

Finding a Job in Social Entrepreneurship + Business

You can find jobs for social change at two main locations online:
Jobs for Change
Idealist
• Using email, facebook, Linked in, and the phone to create one to one relationships with social entrepreneurs in your chosen niche. I think this strategy is especially useful in social entrepreneurship because human resource departments may be minimal, over stretched, or non-existent. Also, given that its a new field by most comparisons–it means the norms of hiring haven’t necessarily all congealed.
• Finally, non profits are in a cost cutting phase, along with the rest of america as they try to deal with recessionary pressure. Think how you can outsource your skills to 4 or 5 nonprofits so they can get you at 1/4 the normal cost of bringing on an employee. Gone are the days of traditional 40 hour work weeks and being dependent on big institutions to create solutions.

Of course your desired geographical local (for instance the Washington Post) or market niche (environment or teaching or international development) may also provide a unique set of other opportunities for your job search journey.

I’m in job search mode….so feel free to pass potential social entrepreneurship job opportunities my way.
